The industry has a reputation problem
Let's be blunt: carpet cleaning has more than its share of shady operators. The classic scam is bait-and-switch — a "$99 whole house" coupon that becomes $400 at your door through "necessary" add-ons. Others rush through in 30 minutes, leave residue that attracts dirt, or promise stain removal they can't deliver. Here's how to avoid all of that.
Seven questions to ask
One: "What exactly is included in the quote?" Vague answers mean surprise charges later. A real pro lists rooms, what's included (pre-treatment? spot removal? furniture moving?), and what's extra — before arriving.
Two: "What method do you use?" For residential deep cleaning, the answer should be hot water extraction. Anyone pushing dry-only for a deep residential clean is selling convenience over results.
Three: "Are you insured?" Accidents are rare but real — a hose through a screen, a knocked-over lamp. Insured companies handle it; uninsured ones disappear.
Four: "What happens if a stain doesn't come out?" Honest cleaners tell you some stains are permanent before you pay. Dishonest ones promise everything, then shrug.
Five: "Do you guarantee your work?" Look for a walk-through and a re-clean promise, not a miracle guarantee.
Six: "Can I see reviews from real customers?" Check Google and other platforms — not just testimonials on their website.
Seven: "How long will it take?" A whole house in 45 minutes is a red flag. Proper cleaning takes time — 2 to 4 hours for most homes.
Red flags
Unbelievably low prices that balloon on arrival. High-pressure upselling at your door. No written quote. Cash-only operations. Promises that every stain will vanish. Rushing. These are the marks of companies you don't want in your home.
Green flags
Clear written quotes. Honest stain assessments. Proper equipment (truck-mounted or high-powered portable). Shoe covers and corner guards. A walk-through before leaving. Straight answers to hard questions. That's us, by the way — but don't take our word for it. Ask us these seven questions and judge for yourself.
